Things You May Need for A Visit to China
April 27th, 2009 . by Learn For FreeLearning about a new way of life and experiencing what others call home may be a frightening experience without an idea of the place you are traveling. Traveling to China coming from a Western location such as the United States can be just that- unless you have the right advice in mind.
Always be sure that you will have a way to communicate to others in a case of emergency. Buy a phone card that will give you a couple of hours or so of talking time in case you need immediate contact to others. While you can pay to use phones in China, international telephone calls will not be cheap. Cell phone service providers will also charge more based on the fact you are out of your coverage range.
Health should be a primary concern of yours when staying in China. A doctor will be able to tell you more, but you should at least consider a flu shot and any vaccinations you have not already had. This will protect you against a ruined vacation that comes about due to an unexpected illness, which will prove to be a waste of a vacation and your investment.
Don’t count on using your ATM card much, and instead bring plenty of cash with you to exchange and use. Even if you do happen to find an ATM, you may be subject to high transfer rates. Your bank may also shut down your account if they see your card being used in a foreign place without notification, so be sure to notify them before leaving for China.
Obtain a map that has both English and Chinese languages detailing different areas. That way you can pair the locations you find with actual names of businesses and locations you see in person. You may also consider getting a basic translation book or take a small course before you leave to help you understand the dialects spoken in China. While some of the major tourist locations have English-speaking residents, don’t count on everyone to be able to do so.
You should consider talking to a travel agent to make sure all points have been reviewed. A travel agent can also tell you when the best times to go are, attractions you should see, and prepare you for any problems that may arise during your visit. Travel agents can usually find good deals on hotels and travel as well for a small fee of their own.
Final Thoughts
Traveling can be very rewarding, but only if you know what you are doing and have made the proper preparations. Start planning your trip as early as possible, and research every possible aspect to help make sure accidents don’t happen.
