How To land A Good Career

August 13th, 2008 . by Learn For Free

It’s human nature to have a yearning for being well endowed- but few of us make it to the riches we dream of simply because they aren’t landing the careers they should be. If you’re looking to better your income and get a higher paycheck each month, there are a few guidelines to follow to make sure your future is going to be very bright indeed.

Most would think that building a perfect resume and sending it to the employer would be the first step- but it’s actually the second! The first step into landing a good career is to have plenty of educational credentials, references, and if possible an internship or some form of work experience. Only after all of these things are obtained should one fill out a resume- otherwise it will be left bare.

Resumes should be short and to the point. Giving an employer a 10-page report on one’s life history is going to quickly cause them to throw the short novel into the trash without even glancing at it. Also note that drawing attention to the resume by using colored paper, perfumes, or even colored inks is a straight ticket to failure. Keep it simple and to the point- nothing more.

If you are so lucky as to obtain a call from an employer after they have reviewed your application for hire, your odds at success are getting bigger. Don’t get hasty, because the interview is where most will fail in the operation. Dress sophisticated- not casually. Also consider reviewing psychology, practicing interview questions, and visiting a therapist for more advice in being outgoing.

An employment agency should be the next stop if one doesn’t seem to be getting it right. If you’ve failed multiple times and need a hand, an employment agency will be able to give some advice on what you’re doing wrong. They can also give leads to jobs that employers consult them with. Either way, an employment agency is a valuable tool for the unemployed.

The old saying that first impressions are everything is very true in the career industry. Employers will judge possible applicants based on how they look, how they act, talk, or even their goals in life. Getting a career is obviously going to be a very hard task- but not so hard as to discourage those who have failed a few times in the process.

Final Thoughts

In the end the trouble that it takes to get a career in one’s preferred industry is worth the effort. No one enjoys working in the fast food industry or among other low-wage jobs. If you are on the edge of financial strain, consider the above tips for more information in the process.
